Obituary of Gabi Hopkins

Gabriele H. Hopkins, Known to her friends as Gabi, Died on March 22, 2024 in Minneapolis, MN 

She was an only child born to Hilde E. and Egmont F. Voigt in Munich, Germany on June 29, 1933. Raised in Germany during and immediately after World War II. She attended the Simmensschule, and later the Wilhelmsschule, prior to entering a Berufsmodeschule for a year and the Dr. Leopold Business School for a year. She also spent a year in London as an au pair. On December 13, 1967 she was married in Munich, to the American professor Jasper Hopkins, who at that time was on a research leave from Case Insitiute of Technology in Cleveland. The couple settled finally in Minneapolis, MN, and Gabriele began working as a sales and fashion consultant at Dayton's Department Store (including the oval room), where she was of assistance of many Twin City's women. She continued on for 37 years during the store's memamorphoses from Dayton's to Marshall Field's to May company, to Macy's. Already in 1973 she had become an American citizen. 

Gabi will be buried in the Twin Cities at an unannounced time and place.
